Sets are a collection of objects in which each object in a set is called an element. We can simply list each element within a curly bracket { } and separate each elements with comas.

There are different types of sets. A proper subset is when a pair of set cannot have the same number and value of elements. A null set is when there is no elements within the set.

Probability is also known as the likelihood of something happening usually measured in ratio, decimals or even percentage

There are many types of events happening in probabilities. For complementary events, it happens when there are only two outcomes and we are able to find it when the P(A’) = 1 – P (A). For combined events, it is when two or more experiments are conducted together and we are able to find it by P(A U B ) = P(A) + P(B) – P(A ∩ B). Then there is conditional probability, it is when that A occurs given that B has occurred, in which we can find by P(AㅣB) = P(A ∩ B)/P(B). There are also mutually exclusive events in which if and only if P(A ∩ B) = 0 and also when A occurs B is non existent. There will also be independent events in which P(A ∩ B)= P(A) * P(B)

In this unit we also learnt about tree diagrams in which it shows the fraction or probability of something happening . To find the probability of two turn of events, we have to multiply the fractions, for example, chance of getting 2 heads is 0.5 * 0.5 which is 0.25.

Then we also learnt about relative frequency in which it is the percentage or decimal of the probability given in 3 significant figures.

REAL LIFE APPLICATIONS OF SETS AND PROBABILITIES

In spotify or any music streaming app we arrange our playlists depending on the type of songs or singer and is also a type of set and we can also try to find the probability of a song that you want to come out and then the next song which may happen one in thousands if you have a lot of songs in one playlist

In sports we can use the relative frequency to determine the best sports strategies for games and competitions. It could help both offensive and defensive sides determining who should guard who, who should shoot the last game winning shot and etc. It also may be used for betting in sports on who will win and the probability of a team winning over a team.

In cards we may be able to use percentage in playing cards such as Poker. In a study, it shows that the probability of getting a three of a kind in poker is 42 percent. Such percentages may help you win by helping you assess what’s at stake and determine how you might play the game. Deck of cards can also be put to sets determining by their suit or value.
